“No child who does not want to be alone should ever have to be” -Sister Geraldine MacNamara
Rossbrook House Foundation hosted the 2025 No Child Alone Dinner on April 24 at RBC Convention Centre. 320 guests enjoyed a delicious meal while learning more about Rossbrook House programs.
Participants from Rossbrook House began the night with a Grand Entry.
The evening raised awareness and funds for programs. The silent auction was a huge success with over 35 prize packages. Thank you to all who donated these items!
There was also a fun auction to raise funds the Young Mothers’ program. Barry Kay hosted this ‘fund-a-need’ portion of the evening. Participant Alex shared her experiences with the crowd. “I first started coming to the Young Mothers Program at Rossbrook House in 2021. I felt welcomed, and we enjoyed attending every week. The program gave me something I really needed - community. It allowed me to connect with other young moms who were going through the same things as me. I had just started school when I began attending the program, and life felt so busy and overwhelming. It was nice having somewhere to go where I could slow down, relax and just enjoy time with my son.”
Youth worker, Autumn, emceed the event and kept things flowing. She also shared her history with Rossbrook House. Since the age of 5, Autumn has considered the drop-in centre a second home. “Rossbrook House means so much to so many. For me, it was a second home. A place to feel safe. And I know many of the children and youth who walk through the doors would say the same thing. I’m grateful to Rossbrook House for helping to guide me. I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for Rossbrook House.”
15-year-old Jade, a Rising Sun student and Junior Staff Member, received a standing ovation after her inspiring speech about how life-changing she has found her time at Rossbrook House and its school programs, Eagles’ Circle and Rising Sun. “Today I feel like I am who I was always meant to be. Rossbrook House has helped me to find out who I am. When I started at Eagles’ Circle, I had absolutely no sense of what I wanted to be or do, but the staff at Eagles circle and Rossbrook House helped me to be me.”
Thank you to Karleigh at KB Style for generously providing the beautiful gowns for Autumn and Jade.
The evening was topped off by amazing performances by two music students. Austin is an18-year-old, grade 12 student at Rising Sun High School. He performed "Prelude" by A. Shearer and "Etude in E minor" by M. Giuliani on classical guitar, plus Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven”. And Trinity is a 17-year-old student at Rising Sun High School who performed "Blackbird" by the Beatles on electric guitar.
Just before the young people in attendance and Rossbrook House junior and senior staff came on stage to say thank you and goodnight, Executive Director, Patty Mainville, wrapped things up with inspiring words about respect, courage, truth, humility, wisdom and honesty.
Thank you to Shelley and Larry McIntosh for being the honorary co-chairs!
Thank you to all who attended as well as the many generous donors, and sponsors and table purchasers, listed here: rossbrookhouse.ca/nca-dinner-2025/
We could not have held this event without the support from the committee volunteers, the in-kind sponsors, Tricia Bachewich events and Rossbrook House staff who pulled together to make this a special evening!
While a fundraising dinner has not been an annual event, we’re already planning a celebratory gala for next year since it will be the 50th anniversary of Rossbrook House. Stay tuned to find out more.

Children and youth who drop in to Rossbrook House or attend one of the three Rossbrook House off-campus school programs (Rising Sun, Eagles’ Circle, Wi Wabigooni) can take part in the music program. They learn guitar, drums and keyboards. The music program runs twice weekly at Rossbrook House with free drop-in lessons with skilled, professional instructors, and weekly for the students in the off-campus school programs.
At the recent No Child Alone dinner two of these talented students performed.
Austin is an 18-year-old, grade 12 student at Rising Sun High School. He performed "Prelude" by A. Shearer and "Etude in E minor" by M. Giuliani on classical guitar, and Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven".
Austin first started playing guitar and bass just over one year ago after being introduced to music through the drop-in music program. He now plays electric guitar, bass guitar and classical guitar every day. He participates in the drop-in program at Rossbrook House on Sundays and through his school during the week.
Trinity is a 17-year-old student at Rising Sun High School. She performed "Blackbird" by the Beatles on electric guitar. Trinity plays piano and guitar and participates in the Rossbrook House music program through school and on Sundays in the drop-in program. She is also part of the Junior Staff team at Rossbrook House.
We thank Skender Sefa for not only sharing his talents with our students and participants but for also coordinating these performances. Skender has been the music instructor at two of the Rossbrook House off-campus schools, Wi Wabigooni and Eagles’ Circle, for over 18 years.

Thank you to Alex (mom of 2 young boys) who shared her experiences with the Young Mothers’ program at the recent No Child Alone Dinner.
“When I first became a parent, I was only 20 years old, and it wasn’t easy adjusting to such a huge change. I was doing it on my own as a single mom, and I didn’t have much support. My friends from high school all had very different lives from mine. During my son’s early years, there were many times when I felt isolated and alone.
I first started coming to the Young Mothers Program at Rossbrook House in 2021. At the time, my older son had just turned 2. Right away, I felt welcomed, and we enjoyed attending every week. The program gave me something I really needed, community. It allowed me to connect with other young moms who were going through the same things as me. I had just started school when I began attending the program, and life felt so busy and overwhelming. It was nice having somewhere to go where I could slow down, relax and just enjoy time with my son.
At the program, we did all kinds of activities. We would often do crafts like painting, beading, and making Christmas ornaments. Other times, we would talk about things like budgeting or self-care.
We also got to go on lots of fun outings such as Tinkertown, medicine picking, flying squirrel, and the beach. I didn’t have a car at the time, and I was living on a low income, so many of these experiences were ones that I wouldn’t have been able to give my son otherwise.
Over the years, I kept attending the program, and when I had my younger son, I brought him too. Today, I’m in my fourth year at the Inner-City Social Work Program through the University of Manitoba. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I know that the support I received from the Young Mothers Program played a big role in helping me get here.
I’m so grateful for everything that Rossbrook House has done for me and my kids, and I really hope the Young Mothers Program can continue to be there for other young families, because it truly does make a difference.”

44th Annual Rossbrook House Pow Wow
Thursday, June 12, 5:30pm
In 1976 Sister Geraldine MacNamara and a group of inner city young people created Rossbrook House, a neighbourhood drop-in centre with a simple mission: “No child who does not want to be alone, should ever have to be.”
