Julie

Henderson Scholarship recipient (2020)

The David Henderson Scholarship of the Bruce and Ryan Henderson Family Foundation, honours one of Rossbrook House’s earliest supporters; Mr. David Henderson.

David knew Sister Geraldine MacNamara when Rossbrook was just starting up in 1976. At that time David was serving as Winnipeg’s Commissioner of Planning and Social Services and was instrumental in getting the City onboard as a sustaining funder.

The Graduate

Julie Missyabit is enrolled in the Business Administration program at Red River College (September 2020).

Julie graduated from Rising Sun in June of 2020. Rising Sun teacher Jenn Flamand says that Julie is “a great kid” and is thrilled that she is continuing her education at Red River College.

When she graduated, she received the Outstanding Graduate award, the Zhiibendamowin award, and the Captain Barry Leipsic award.

Julie shared that she is the first graduate of her family in generations and wants to become an entrepreneur.

In her own words

“I’d like to say thank you to Rossbrook house for generously presenting me with this award. I am delighted with the additional scholarship it comes with, knowing that it will help me open more doors in my education and future”.

“As well as that, I am sincerely honoured to have received an award by the same organization I volunteered at. I care about the youth within my community and their education, so I really hope to set a good example of what it means to be a good student, and that if you put your mind to something you can achieve it.”

We are pleased to award Julie a Henderson Scholarship for 2020. Congratulations Julie!
