COVID-19 Pandemic and Rossbrook House
The COVID-19 Pandemic has compounded the need and the challenge to serve children and youth in our community. We are staying open around the clock at Rossbrook House as we focus on the basics of food and a safe place to go when so many doors are closed. We continue to balance our need to keep the children and youth, as well as our staff and community, safe. We are currently operating 24 hours daily so there is always a safe place for children and youth to feel they are not alone. In order to stay safe we are following the

Generations of Pow Wow Dancing
The annual Rossbrook House Pow Wow will, unfortunately, not be happening this spring as planned. This tradition has been a huge part of Rossbrook House for 38 years! Many participants and former students have fond memories of the Rossbrook House Pow Wow. As so many other events around the world, the Pow Wow has been canceled. We hope to make more memories again next time! In the beginning… In the early 1980’s Millie Stonechild began to work with a group of students at Eagles’ Circle, sharing teachings and culture. In the process the students began to learn pow wow dancing. The

A Message from Rossbrook House
As a supporter of Rossbrook House you are likely interested in our response to keeping participants and staff safe while helping to control the virus spread – especially in light of the closings of schools for three weeks beginning March 23. We’ve seen some great plans from other agencies and can summarize by saying that everyone is keeping surfaces extra clean; is asking their staff, participants and volunteers to frequently wash their hands with soap and dry them thoroughly with paper towels or blowers. They are also asking those same folks to stay home if they have cold or

Cold City Warm Hearts 2020
For the fourth year in a row, FortWhyte Alive generously opened their doors for a fun evening in February to 100 youngsters from Rossbrook House and Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM). We once again celebrated winter with “Cold City, Warm Hearts”. The elementary school-age children from IRCOM and Rossbrook took part in a bonfire and bannock bake, Inuit and Voyageur games, plus snowshoeing and the thrilling toboggan run. Thank you to the staff at FortWhyte Alive and all of their wonderful volunteers! “We truly believe that connecting people with nature is essential to overall

Fundraise for Rossbrook House
Want to give back while raising awareness? Have a special occasion coming up and don’t want gifts that’ll add to your dusting or be re-gifted? Consider asking people to donate to Rossbrook House Foundation in lieu of a gift. In charge of your next group outing? Planning a party and trying to think of something different to do? Consider a fundraising event with the proceeds going to Rossbrook House Foundation. You could organize a Social Trivia Night Games Night Sporting Event/Tournament There are also different organizations that can help you do this, including, but not limited to:

The Sons and Daughter of Italy, Garibaldi Lodge, took over Rossbrook House on December 24. From the early hours, food was being prepared off-site, while the main room at Rossbrook House was transformed into a giant family dining room. This was the 14th annual Christmas Eve Feast put on by the Sons and Daughters of Italy, and the first time it was held at the inner city drop-in centre. It is not, however, the first time that the Rossbrook community has enjoyed the hospitality of the Sons and Daughters of Italy. “The Sons and Daughters of Italy have long supported

Thank you for all that you do
Happy Holidays! As the song goes, it can be ‘the best time of the year’, when our hearts are open, and we become present to each other. The doors at Rossbrook will be open 24 hours each day of the holidays so that, in the words of Sister MacNamara, “no child who does not want to be alone, should ever have to be.” On behalf of all of us at Rossbrook House, thank you for all you do to support a safe place for children and youth to belong, play, learn and become…at Rossbrook, other service organizations, in your homes
