Have you checked out the Citizens Hall of Fame at Assiniboine Park? There are dozens of sculptures that recognize citizens who have contributed to Winnipeg’s quality of life with exceptional achievements in leadership and community service. It includes a variety of local or national heroes including Sister Geraldine MacNamara (1938-1984).
Sister Gerry was inducted posthumously in 1997 for her professional and volunteer work and community service. The sculpture of Sister Gerry was made by Helen Lillian Granger Young. She was a Canadian artist who worked as a sculptor in porcelain and later bronze. She passed away at the age of 100 in April, 2023.
In addition to this honour, Sister Gerry received the Order of Canada in 1983. She also has a school named after her as well as MacNamara Hall at the University of Winnipeg. And, of course, her vision lives on at Rossbrook House; No child who does not want to be alone, should ever have to be.
